Huygens’ Pocket Watch

On the 4 October, in 1675, Christian Huygens patented a pocket watch. Huygens was a Dutch astronomer and physicist who established the wave theory of light and made astronomical discoveries. He also patented the first pendulum clock in 1656, which he had developed to meet his need for exact time measurement while observing the heavens. In 1673, he studied the relation of the length of a pendulum to its period of osciallation.
